Why choose us for your mold damage needs!

A customer bought a home in a new state, and the inspection came back with just minor issues that had nothing to do with any water damage. Three months later the customer actually moved into the home to find that two of the rooms are covered in black mold spores. They were obviously worried about the mold damage because that's not something they expected at all following a good inspection on the home.
Since the customer knew this was something they couldn't tackle on their own they called in the experts at SERVPRO of Floyd County.
Our crews came out to do a full inspection and found it to be mold. SERVPRO of Floyd County sent an estimator out to write up an estimate and once approved we began the mitigation and repairs on the home. The job turned out to be a lot of work, including removal of all the walls that were affected and repairing them.
The customer was so appreciative of all the work because this was something they had never been through and only heard of the horror stories of mold. SERVPRO of Floyd County was quick and thorough with the whole process keeping true to the saying “Like it never even happened.”

Why an ERP? Why and What is an ERP?
8/17/2022 (Permalink)
An emergency ready profile (ERP) is one of the greatest tools that SERVPRO of Floyd County Indiana offers all our clients and customers to help and aid in taking a loss and preventing it from becoming a financial disaster. The ERP is a profile of the customers place of residence or business in which a SERVPRO marketing associate takes pictures and gathers pertinent information on the structure and its utilities and puts all the information print out and or an app.
WHATS IN THE ERP? The ERP contains information on the where the customers shut off valves are located:
- Water shut off
- Gas shut off
- Electrical breaker box
- Sprinkler system (if available)
- Alarm system (if available)
There is also information with instructions how to get to each shut off valve from the entrance of the building.
The profile also contains information for all local first responders that need to be called in an emergency situation as well as local utility companies such as:
- Electric company
- Gas company
- Water company
- HVAC company and alarm and sprinkler company if applicable.
- Also listed are the emergency contacts added per the customers discretion.
THE PURPOSE The purpose of the ERP is to give the customer or client the capability to shut off these valves (if safe to do so) to prevent the further loss and to help reduce the cost of work needed to be done during the restoration or reconstruction process. This information can also be given to several members of staff in an office if the main point contact or member of maintenance is unavailable at the time of the loss.
SERVPRO of Floyd offers this service to all our clients and customers at no cost, the only cost for the client is the time it takes to sit down or walk around the structure to show the Floyd county SERVPRO representative the information needed.
Mold Isn't Just Ugly Looking...It is All Around Ugly!
7/23/2022 (Permalink)
If you’ve recently found a patch of black mold in your home, you’re likely beside yourself with worry. Mold Cleanup does not have to be stressful.
In fact, the easiest and most reliable method of mold remediation relies on the knowledge and equipment of professionals. These experts can help get your home back to normal by taking the following five steps.
Steps professionals follow to stop mold growth
- Find the moisture source. Because mold needs moisture to grow, it’s important to find the source of moisture. A roof leak or condensation buildup may be the culprit of your mold problem. However, if this source isn’t found, the fungus will continue to come back. Finding and fixing the issue helps contain your mold growth.
- Wear personal protective equipment. While mold can cause structural damage to your home, it can also be a hazard. For this reason, professionals often put on masks, gloves and goggles before working with the mold in your home.
- Remove the porous materials. Porous materials must be discarded when affected by moisture and mold damage. For this reason, any affected dry wall will have to be cut out of the home and discarded. Carpets, mattresses and other objects may also have to be discarded.
- Clean and disinfect non-porous objects. Professionals may use a detergent-based disinfectant to clean the hard surfaces affected by mold. This cleaning should remove all spores.
- Dry out the area. After the cleaning, the entire area of your home affected by mold should be properly dried out. The remediation team may bring in air movers and dehumidifiers to help remove moisture from your home. The growth of mold can be stopped by the proper cleaning steps. The only true way to stop this growth is to remove the source of the moisture and git rid of as many of the spores as possible.
It may be tempting to do the remediation yourself, but remediation experts at SERVPRO of Floyd County have the knowledge and equipment necessary to do this task well.

Ask The Experts: What are the best ways to prevent mold?
8/14/2021 (Permalink)
Here at SERVPRO of Floyd County we believe mold prevention is an important step to a safe and healthy work environment. The ability to prevent potential mold before it starts growing may save both time and money in the long run. Here are a few tips for preventing mold growth on company property.
1. Regularly Inspect Susceptible Areas
There are some areas of your company's property that may be more susceptible to water damage than others. Because mold likes to grow in wet areas, inspecting these regularly allows you to take care of any issues as they arise. You may want to inspect ceiling tiles, terminal units, duct work, and pockets where water can collect in the building masonry. If you experience frequent wet weather or are located in a place with high humidity, you may choose to perform these inspections more often.
2. Use Proper Drainage
Proper drainage can be an important tool for mold prevention. Damp areas can create a hospitable environment for mold to grow, so by directing water away from the property via sloped landscaping and gutters, you can prevent it from pooling around the building. Installing a sump pump in basement areas can also help prevent a flooded space.
3. Take Care of Damage Caused by Water Quickly
One of the best ways to protect your place of work from mold is to take care of any damage caused by water as quickly as possible. A mold and water damage remediation professional may be able to help. By cleaning up the damaged areas, drying and sanitizing them, the growth of mold may be prevented.
Using mold prevention techniques can help stop a mold growth problem before it starts. Remember to use proper drainage to help direct water away from the company buildings. Regularly inspecting potential problem areas may also help you find and take care of any issues before mold appears. If you have flood damage, a professional can help with the remediation and restoration of the property.
